Effects of Stocking Density, Size, and External Stress on Growth and Welfare of African Catfish (Clarias gariepinus Burchell, 1822) in a Commercial RAS

چکیده
The effects of semi-intensive (100 kg m−3), intensive (200 and super-intensive (400 m−3) stocking densities on the growth welfare African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) were investigated under commercial production conditions. Plasma cortisol, glucose, selected transcripts following a stress challenge, lactate, as well skin lesions, analyzed at regular intervals (from 12 g juveniles to 1.5–2.0 kg). fish grew well, but after 23 weeks, semi-intensively stocked had mean final weight 1830.5 g, significantly higher than super-intensively with 1615.4 considerably intensively 1664.8 (p > 0.05). Cortisol glucose responses differed between stressed unstressed fish, not treatment groups. An unforeseen external stressor (nearby demolition noise) caused among all groups, was similarly coped with. Mortality ranged 3.8–9.2%. In juveniles, lesions reduced or densities, least in outgrown fish. Expression profiles 22 genes compared spleen densities. transcript concentrations most remained unchanged, except for slc39a8 mtf1, which downregulated We demonstrated that performance depend age density, also reacting noise. This supports farm management optimize during grow-out RAS suggests avoiding stress.

Responses of growth rates and growth hormone levels of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) to stocking density
In order to estimate responses of growth rate and growth hormone of Clarias gariepinus to stocking density, fish (initial weight 30.71 ± 0.89 g) were stocked in 120-L tanks at densities of 35, 65, 95, and 125 kg/m3 for 60 days. On day 30 and 60, the fish growth rates were measured, pituitary growth hormone (GH) mRNA levels and serum GH concentrations were examined by real-time qPCR and ELISA te...

The present study investigated effects of environmental relevant concentrations of 4-nonylphenol (0.05 to 0.08 to 0.1 mg/l) on the reproduction and embryonic developmental stages of catfish (Clarias gariepinus). To determine the effect of 4-nonylphenol on reproduction; catfish were exposed to three concentrations of 4-nonylphenol in a flow-through-system during spawning period (some for one wee...

IgM like macroglobulin from bovine serum albumin (BSA)-immunized African catfish C. gariepinus was purified by affinity chromatography and partially characterized. The molecular weight of this macroglobulin was 840 kDa, as estimated by gel filtration chromatography. Purified macroglobulin was analyzed using SDS-PAGE under reducing and non-reducing conditions. The molecular weight (MW) of heavy ...
